Natacha Viljoen is the CEO of Anglo American Platinum (Amplats), platinum business (Amplats), the world’s largest producer of Platinum Group Metals (PGMs). She assumed office in 2020 and is the first South African woman to ascend that height in Amplats. The company provides a complete resource-to-market service, supplying global customers with mined, recycled and traded products.
Viljoen studied metallurgical engineering at North-West University in South Africa and later earned an Executive MBA from the University of Cape Town. She has over thirty years of experience in the mining industry.
Before joining Anglo-American, Natascha spent six years as Executive Vice President of Processing at Lonmin, a British producer of platinum group metals operating in the Bushveld Complex in South Africa. She was also responsible for several wider corporate functions, including sustainability.
In February, Amplats shares fell more than 5% following the announcement that Viljoen would step down in 2024 to join Newmont Corporation’s Executive Leadership Team as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer. Newmont is a U.S.-based company and global leader in gold mining. She is currently serving her 12-month notice period at Amplats.
“While I have identified the next phase of my career, my commitment to delivering our clear objectives this year is as firm as ever, beginning, of course, with keeping our people safe every day,” Viljoen stated following the announcement of her exit from Amplats.
