Stacey Onyango charts a path for women in Africa’s construction and commerce sectors.
Stacey Menga Onyango’s entrepreneurial journey began in 2009 when she founded Minkoti Agencies Limited in Kenya. Starting as a small general supplies enterprise, the company initially focused on serving government and private offices within Kenya. Over time, Minkoti Agencies Limited has evolved into a construction firm specialising in building and civil works, reportedly expanding its operations into neighbouring South Sudan.
With a Bachelor of Arts, a Higher Diploma in Human Resource Management, and an MBA in Strategic Management, all earned in Kenya, she possesses a robust foundation in organisational development, leadership, and strategic planning. These critical skills have been instrumental in her effective management and expansion of Minkoti Agencies.
Construction and community impact
Stacey Onyango has championed and completed impactful infrastructure projects, including the construction of a 10,000 cubic metre water pan, a 3 km security wall, and contributed significantly to the Nairobi-Naivasha Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) project. Onyango is deeply committed to economic empowerment, ensuring that female supervisors lead project teams and emphasising skills transfer to youth and women in the communities where Minkoti operates. Her leadership has thus translated into tangible social and economic impact, strengthening local livelihoods through employment and business opportunities.
Other ventures
Beyond her role at Minkoti, Stacey serves as the Kenya Chapter CEO of the Africa International Chamber of Commerce & Industry (AICCI), where she uses her entrepreneurial expertise to promote pan-African trade and economic integration. Since assuming this role, she has played a key part in expanding AICCI Kenya’s strategic outreach and influence for business collaboration. She has led important initiatives that facilitate market access, funding, and mentorship for women entrepreneurs and youth-led businesses.
She also chairs AICCI’s Women in Business Committee, contributing to programmes aimed at supporting female-led enterprises and reducing gender disparities in trade and industry. At both national and continental levels, she has worked to create platforms that enable women entrepreneurs and youth-led ventures to gain visibility and access to funding.
