Anne Juuko is a prominent Ugandan banking executive who has served as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Stanbic Bank Uganda since March 2020. With an impressive career trajectory, Anne’s leadership journey began when she was appointed Head of Global Markets at Stanbic Bank Uganda. Her leadership acumen and financial expertise quickly shone through, leading to her role as the Head of Corporate and Investment Banking at Standard Bank, Namibia. This position further underscored her financial prowess and strategic capabilities.
Anne’s academic background includes a Bachelor’s degree in Commerce from Makerere University and a Master’s in Strategic Management from Heriot-Watt University Business School in Edinburgh, Scotland. Her extensive experience in the finance sector began in 2000 when she took on leadership roles at Citibank Uganda as Vice President and Head of Fixed Income, Currencies, and Commodities. She was later transferred to Citibank Kenya, where she served as Vice President, Customer Sales and Derivatives Marketing. By 2012, Anne joined Standard Bank Group, the parent company of Stanbic Bank, where she held various prominent positions, culminating in her current role as CEO.

As the first female CEO of Stanbic Bank Uganda, Anne Juuko’s leadership has been pivotal, especially during unprecedented challenges. When she assumed the role in 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted global economies, including Uganda’s financial sector. Anne used this opportunity to steer the bank with resilience and strategic foresight. She led the expansion of Stanbic Bank’s digital banking capabilities, enabling customers to access essential banking services remotely and transforming banking for millions of Ugandans.
In addition, Anne Juuko championed initiatives to support small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), offering flexible loans and financial advice to help businesses navigate the harsh economic climate caused by the pandemic. Under her leadership, the bank’s assets grew significantly, rising from Shs6.65 trillion ($1.8 billion) to Shs8.57 trillion ($2.23 billion), marking a 28.87% increase by the end of 2020.
Anne’s influence extends beyond Stanbic Bank’s balance sheet. Her leadership at Stanbic Bank Uganda’s Global Markets division earned the Primary Dealer of the Year award for six consecutive years, reflecting her unwavering commitment to excellence. Today, Anne Juuko stands as a role model for women in finance, embodying sustainable banking principles and continuing to inspire the next generation of leaders in Africa’s banking industry.
