Juliet Ehimuan is the founder and CEO of Beyond Limits Africa and the immediate past director of Google West Africa. Juliet started her tech journey in 1995 when she joined the Shell Petroleum Development Company as a Performance Monitoring and Quality Assurance Supervisor.
A key moment in Ehimuan’s career was her transition to a leadership role at Microsoft UK. There, she managed complex projects that showed her ability to combine technical expertise with business acumen. In 2005, when she left Microsoft, she started Strategic Insight Consulting Ltd. and later became the General Manager of Chams Plc’s Strategic Business Unit.
Her success in these roles led to her appointment as the Country Manager for Google Nigeria in April 2011 – a position she held for 12 years. In 2017, she became Google West Africa’s director, placing her at the forefront of digital strategy in one of Africa’s most dynamic tech markets. Her strategic decisions and leadership at Google impacted the company’s growth in the region and established her as a leading figure in promoting technological advancement and professional excellence. Over a year ago, in June 2023, she stepped down from that position and was appointed a non-executive director at Zenith Bank.
Academic background
Dr Juliet Ehimuan, a respected tech industry leader with over 25 years’ experience, was born and raised in Nigeria, where she earned a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering from the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife. While she studied there, she distinguished herself with her analytical and leadership skills in various tech-related projects. Ehimuan then moved to the University of Cambridge for postgraduate studies in Computer Science before completing her MBA programme at the London Business School. She also obtained a Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) degree from Walden University, Minneapolis.
Leadership at Google
Becoming the Country Manager for Google Nigeria was linked to her impressive career achievements and expertise in technology and business. As Country Manager, she oversaw Google’s operations and strategy in Nigeria for 12 years.
During her tenure at Google, Dr. Ehimuan led campaigns that improved Google’s presence and influence in Nigeria. Her work then substantially increased the company’s market share and user engagement. She launched and expanded programs to increase digital literacy and support local startups – one of which was the $3 million allocation to the Google Digital Skills Training program in 2017, which empowered thousands of Nigerian entrepreneurs and professionals with essential digital skills.
Impact and contributions through Beyond Limits Africa
Ehimuan has contributed to creating opportunities for career advancement and mentoring young talent to build a more skilled workforce in Africa. As an Executive Coach and a member of the Forbes Coaches Council, she has built leadership and organisational capacity through her Beyond Limits Africa initiative. She has dedicated her time to mentoring and developing young professionals in the tech industry. She believes individuals will excel in their different professional roles with proper knowledge.
Ehimuan has also been involved in initiatives to encourage young girls to pursue careers in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics), thereby helping to address the gender gap from an early age. In 2021, Ehimuan facilitated a $1 billion investment to transform Africa’s digitally.
