Mories Atoki is driving collaborative private-sector action through ABCHealth to strengthen Africa’s healthcare systems and advance sustainable development.
Africa has a growing drive towards sustainable development, and Dr Mories Atoki is a powerful voice in strengthening collaboration between the private sector and public health systems. As the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the African Business Coalition for Health (ABCHealth), she focuses on business strategy, legal insight, and healthcare advocacy, guiding the organisation in its mission to build stronger, more resilient health systems across the continent.
Appointed in 2020, Mories Atoki took on the role at a decisive moment for the coalition and the continent’s health sector. ABCHealth was established through the initiative of African business leaders and philanthropists, including billionaires like Aliko Dangote and Aigboje Aig-Imoukhuede, to mobilise the private sector to address the continent’s health challenges. The coalition’s core belief is that Africa’s development depends on shared responsibility and effective collaboration among governments, the private sector, and health professionals.
Atoki’s appointment drew on her broad professional background and experience across law, finance, and sustainability. She holds degrees in law and business administration and is an alumna of Harvard Business School and the London School of Business & Finance. Before joining ABCHealth, she led sustainability and climate change advisory work at PricewaterhouseCoopers, an experience that would later shape her leadership approach at the coalition.
Since 2020, ABCHealth has taken on a wider role in coordinating public-private health partnerships across Africa. In 2024, the coalition was appointed the Secretariat of the Corporate Alliance on Malaria in Africa (CAMA), succeeding the Global Business Coalition for Health in New York. The transition marked a significant moment for locally driven leadership within Africa’s malaria response efforts.
She has led ABCHealth’s focus on several key health priorities, including infectious diseases, maternal and child health, non-communicable diseases, and health systems strengthening. The organisation also works to promote sustainable health financing, encourage innovation, and support regulatory harmonisation across African countries. Through these efforts, ABCHealth seeks to enhance the continent’s preparedness for health emergencies and create a more coordinated response framework.
The coalition’s projects have included initiatives to expand workplace malaria programmes, improve vaccine coverage, and strengthen primary healthcare delivery through private-sector collaboration. Its advocacy also highlights the economic case for investing in health, positioning good healthcare as both a social necessity and an avenue for sustainable business growth.
The medical expert has often spoken about the importance of measurable outcomes and shared accountability in Africa’s healthcare development.
