Julia Muhumuza, 24, is a first-class International Business graduate from Makerere University Business School (MUBS). She made headlines on several news blogs when she graduated with a 4.91 CGPA at her university’s 72nd graduation ceremony in 2022. Now the founder of TME (Teach, Mentor, Educate), Julia is committed to empowering youth through educational programs and personal mentorship.
Julia Muhumuza grew up in a Ugandan community with limited access to quality education. She saw the difficulties faced by underprivileged students, which strengthened her determination to create an organization that could tackle these challenges. This experience ignited her passion for enhancing educational opportunities for children and young people in marginalized communities.
Founding TME (Teach, Mentor, Educate)
TME (Teach, Mentor, Educate) was founded by Julia Muhumuza and Muhumuza Joshua in 2023. The idea for TME emerged as Julia experienced the challenges that underprivileged youth face in accessing quality education and mentorship. She saw the need for a different approach to education and desired to build an organization that offered not just academic instruction, but also personal guidance and support.
Through her organisation, Julia wants to create a nurturing environment where young people can receive the skills, knowledge, and encouragement they need to succeed in all areas of their lives. Thus, since its inception in 2023, TME has launched 3 projects, reaching 216 schools with 10 qualified staff and 30 volunteers pushing the vision.
TME’s Approach to Education and Mentorship
TME’s programs are specifically designed to reach underprivileged communities where education and mentorship is limited. The organization works closely with local communities to identify the most pressing needs and tailor its programs to address these issues effectively.
Their teaching methods are interactive and student-centered, so every participant can grasp complex concepts with ease. In mentorship, TME uses a well-structured yet flexible approach. They allow mentors to guide each mentee according to their personal needs by including regular one-on-one meetings, feedback, and goal-setting sessions in the mentorship process.
TME’s core programs
1. Teaching: TME’s educational programs focus on providing quality instruction in key academic areas. These programs are designed to meet the needs of students who may not have access to traditional educational resources.
2. Mentorship: Their mentorship pairs students with experienced mentors who guide and support them personally. These mentors encourage and give practical advice to help students set and achieve academic and personal goals.
3. Empowerment Initiatives: TME’s goes beyond the classroom, by helping their beneficiaries gain access to quality and affordable education using creative and innovative solutions. These programs give young people the tools they need to face challenges and seize opportunities as they move on in life.
What began as a small initiative in 2023 is quickly growing to serve a more diverse population. The organisation has introduced new programs and built partnerships with other educational organizations. Overall, Julia’s vision for TME is not just for the organization to grow in impact but also to ensure that she remains an influential force in the field of education and mentorship.
